How do stacked or 'double' discounts work?
When a store offers an additional coupon on top of a sale item (e.g. 20% off already reduced 30% items), the second discount applies to the already-discounted subtotal, not the original price. For example, a $100 item with 30% off becomes $70, and an additional 20% coupon takes $14 off that subtotal, resulting in a final price of $56 (a 44% total discount, not 50%).
Is sales tax applied before or after the discount?
